Giving Back 2015

Posted by Alissa DeRouchie on

There's no better way to say it than our world is a mess. It's the time of year we give to others, so let's consider going outside our comfort zones and giving to those who are most in need.

Sprout Soup wants to do what we can to help. We have a few different opportunities starting this week that we invite you to participate in.

Gently Used Carrier Donations

We are partnering with Carry the Future to collect gently used carriers to send to the refugees in Europe. Carriers can be brought to Sprout Soup on Small Business Saturday (November 28) between 10am and 2pm or anytime during our business hours.

Carry the Future accepts buckle carriers and Mei Tais. See CarryTheFuture.org for more information.

What we collect will be sent on to their organization to be distributed by volunteers on the ground where the refugees are arriving.

New Carrier Donations

Would you like to send a carrier directly to an organization? We are happy to help and we would like to match your donation! We have $500 set aside for carrier matches to be sent to one of three organizations. You can choose which organization and let us know that your purchase is to be donated by adding this item to your shopping cart: http://shop.sproutsoup.com/send-a-carrier

Choose the organization that you would like to support from the list and we'll pack up two and send them off! If you would prefer to pay for half of the carrier and have us pick up the other half, use coupon code "GiveACarrier" at checkout and you will pay half the cost and Sprout Soup will cover the other half to send one carrier.

Round Up Donation Match

At our Small Business Saturday event on November 28 we will be giving you the option to round up your purchase and choose an organization to which we will donate the extra.

Sprout Soup has set aside $500 to match these monetary donations as well. We have four organizations that you can choose from. Being picky about how funds are spent, we've researched these organizations (or are involved with them ourselves) and feel confident that our donations will be making a difference. When available, we have provided the link to the organization's 'report card' on Charity Navigator so you can be informed of how your donation is spent.

The four organizations are:

Cloth Diaper Connection: Our local cloth diaper bank. Cloth Diaper Connection loans a full set of cloth diapers to families who qualify for WIC or SNAP and who live in Central Ohio.

Carry the Future: This organization is not only collecting gently used baby carriers for the refugees, they are on the ground passing them out and helping families use the donated carriers. This is important because we know the carriers will be properly used and not just become a burden for volunteers to sort through.

Samaritan's Purse: With volunteers on the front lines of the refugee crisis, Samaritan's Purse is providing for the physical and emotional needs of these displaced people. We encourage you to visit their website for photos and video of the work they are doing. (Samaritan's Purse on Charity Navigator)

Doctors Without Borders: A neutral and impartial humanitarian organization that aims to provide emergency health care to people caught in crisis, whether from natural disasters or war. Doctors Without Borders is providing aid to refugees in the Middle East and Europe which is what brings them to the spotlight now. (Doctors Without Borders on Charity Navigator)

Shopping online and you want to participate? Unfortunately the website isn't smart enough to round up your purchase, but you can choose to add to your order and donate those funds to the organization of your choosing (and we'll match online donations, too). Online donations need to be made in whole dollar amounts using this product: http://shop.sproutsoup.com/donate
